Hey there. I am Phi. I am the solo developer, marketer, and support team behind Staked Maps.
If we were sitting around a campfire, I would tell you I am just an average Southern Oregon girl with a deep passion for gold panning and a pretty big geeky side. I love being out in the dirt as much as I love writing code and building things.
The idea for this project was born out of pure backcountry frustration. A while back, I walked up on someone actively panning right on my own claim. After the initial shock wore off, it hit me just how incredibly easy it is for folks to get confused out in the woods. We have all spent years attempting to navigate the government's clunky, broken public databases on mobile browser viewports while standing in remote canyons. You are out there trying to research land boundaries, and you end up fighting those mapping sites on a phone with bad service. It is a miserable experience.
I saw a massive need for a tool that simply shows you where the claims are without all the confusing government legacy systems. So, I decided to put my technical side to work. I engineered Staked Maps to solve this exact field-utility vacuum.
Building this has been an absolute labor of love. Because I am a US-based, one-woman team wearing all the hats, I am personally invested in making this the most practical tool in your kit. I will continue adding new features to make our lives easier in the field. Right now, keeping it as a mobile-optimized web app helps keep costs low and performance incredibly fast. My goal is to eventually bring Staked Maps to the App Store and Google Play once the app justifies the additional overhead costs.
I am not a massive software corporation. I am just a hobbyist prospector who got tired of bad tools and built a better one. I hope it gives you the absolute confidence of knowing exactly where you stand on public ground.
Staked Maps is an interactive map of active and historical BLM mining claims, surface management data, and (on paid plans) Rockhound Hotspots, built to work in the field, including offline, with no cell service. The free tier covers one state of your choice; paid plans expand coverage across our 13 core public-domain mining states (Alaska, Arizona, California, Colorado, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, New Mexico, Oregon, South Dakota, Utah, Washington, and Wyoming), with Rockhound Hotspots and offline basemap coverage available nationwide.
Staked Maps isn't crowd-sourced guesswork. Active and historical claim boundaries are parsed directly from the Bureau of Land Management's Mineral & Land Records System (MLRS) — which replaced the legacy LR2000 mining claim system in 2021 — the same records BLM state offices use internally, and kept in sync with our database on a regular schedule. Rockhound Hotspots draw from the USGS Mineral Resources Data System (MRDS), cross-referenced by material so you can see exactly what's been found at a given site. For legal filings, always confirm current status directly with your BLM state office of record; Staked Maps is a research and navigation tool, not a substitute for the official record.
Staked Maps is operated by Phi McRee Designs LLC, 560 NE F Street Ste A PMB #322, Grants Pass, OR 97526, United States.
